It is genital mutilation, and mutilation is a human rights violation.
Circumcision of children should be illegal in general, regardless if it is for religious or medical reasons.
It denies the child the right to make their own decisions with regards to their body when they are old enough to understand the implications.
for the freedom of religion (for the child)
In practice though, does a minor really have religious freedom, or the freedom to believe in different political ideas etc.? How do we separate that from parenting? IMO mutilation is a special case, but it's not about the child's religious freedom.
yes everyone has the religious freedom
your parents are not allowed to force you to pray/belive in god/wear a cross around your neck (those things are not parenting)
if the parents go to church and the child is to young to stay alone at home it would be parenting to force the child to go to chuch
But if parents raised a child a certain way since a young age (ex. as a Christian), the child wouldn't know any better and wouldn't question it. Ideally, yes, but in practice, it's virtually impossible to draw the line.
it maybe is impossible to draw the line
but the things i said are not much a debate
and even if they were for those reasons there are judges
I agree. Legally, child abuse is child abuse. Morally/ideologically, it's much more complicated.
if the parents raise the child as a christian and stays for the rest of its life christian it will say it liked it got circumsiced
but some kids end up with a different religious view and those kids dislike the circumsicion
i think it is about the child's religious freedom because
IMO to get cirucumcised is like getting a cross necklace that you can never take off...
