Knowledge should be open and free to the public
This fails to consider all the ethical implications. Free knowledge would also include information that could endanger ones life, or infringe on ones sense of well being. Information pertaining to the personal should NOT be free.
Illegally downloading copyrighted music and other files is morally wrong.
From a consequentialist view, private property exists to reward more efficient use of scarce goods. In contrast to scarce goods, files are abstract and infinite; there is no point in being efficient with them as the copying and consumption of files usually carry no cost to anyone.
Forcing the US incarcerated population into high-labor jobs would lower US gov't expenditure on prisons and incentivize companies from outsourcing labor jobs overseas.
