Carbon taxes are a good method of internalizing the costs of carbon emissions however there are far more damaging types of pollution that need to be more firmly prevented.
Although many other pollution types may be more immediately damaging to the ecosystem, carbon dioxide directly contributes to climate change, which is far more dangerous in the long run.
If carbon emissions are a byproduct of making money, wouldn't this tax then make money off of carbon emissions, and then take away incentive to stop carbon emissions? What is the purpose for this tax, make more pollution, or fail to stop pollution.
