It may be a contributing factor but I don't think it's the only cause. It may not even be a significant cause. I would put the blame firstly on degradation of the education system. Maybe the changing of people's main source of education from schools to media could be the cause.

Flynns Effect only measures IQ which has a direct relation to the rise of accessible education (not media). The argument is in relation to critical thinking, not IQ. Two separate things.
