We should guarantee healthcare as a right of citizenship. It’s time for the U.S. to provide universal healthcare to all.

The healthcare market is characterised by asymmetric information. The healthcare practitioner typically has more knowledge of the service being provided than the patient who is the consumer. The patient’s lack of expertise means he or she is ill-equipped to judge the quality of health care.
Medical insurance has intrinsic problem of adverse selection. The idea behind adverse selection is that those who will insure are those who are the most likely to benefit from insurance.
This will probably mean less quality of care and we must be prepared to accept that. We cannot predict the outcome of free healthcare in the US by using much less populated countries as a reference.
The concept of a truly universal health care system is simply impossible. The economy cannot provide for every single citizen. What if there is a homeless person who needs cancer treatment that costs millions of dollars?
